For three plus decades SCCA has been advocating for policies that sustain a healthy, green, prosperous and equitable community. We have operated a door-to-door canvassing team that, in some years, knocked on up to 70,000 doors , educating the public about green ideas and climate friendly policies.
Our canvass and advocacy work has been critical to Sonoma County’s green ethos and quality of life.
SCCA has had a historic role in seeding the initial support for institutions that put Sonoma County at the cutting edge of environmentally friendly places to live. We were early supporters of SMART, funding for Regional Parks, initiatives to stop sprawl, adoption of clean energy, support for city-centered growth, and housing in UGBs, Russian River restoration, support for sustainable agriculture and zoning to support affordable housing.
To fulfill our green ideals, SCCA fought for the establishment of five key institutions that are fundamental building blocks in a climate and environmentally friendly future for Sonoma County. We will work on outreach campaigns over the next year to ensure the Sonoma County public’s support for our green institutions does not fade over time and so these institutions are properly funded.
We take our role safeguarding Sonoma County’s quality of life very seriously. We will continue our work supporting the “Sonoma Green Deal” – the “deal” that was shaped by voter choices and visionary leaders over the past 50 years. In today’s “fake news” environment, SCCA’s role as an educator is more important than ever.
