Why Support SCCA?

We're in the midst of a big battle at the County right now- the so called Preservation Ranch development (that we like to call Devestation Ranch!) that we're fighting with postcard campaigns, Coalition Building amongst progressive organizations and intense grassroots and public pressure. We're also gearing up to work on Station Area Planning processes in Santa Rosa and Petalum, and are working to educate the public about the "resource extraction" agenda being pushed at the County of Sonoma.

2012 is an important election year, and our public outreach campaigns will run full steam ahead- with your support!

Here's how your support helped us win in 2010:

November Election: we were 66% effective on our endorsements. We saw many of our candidates into public office, and retained environmental majorities in Sonoma, Sebastopol, Cotati, and Windsor. We also won Urban Growth Boundary renewals in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, with no increases in size of the boundaries!

We unfortunately lost our majority in Santa Rosa, and must redouble our efforts there; and we're waiting to see what happens with the Petaluma council, where there is an ideological split (3-3), with the election of David Glass to Mayor (yay!) and the opening of his council seat to appointment or special election.

Examples of our past success:

Sonoma County Agricultural and Open Space District Tax Renewal. More than 75% of the electorate voted to renew the OSD, guaranteeing at least another 20 years of land purchases for public ownership.

SCCA ran the ground campaign for the SMART Rail Measure in 2006 and 2008

We found great success for SMART Measure Q in 2008, distributing 1000’s of lawn signs and facilitating more than 250 volunteers for the effort. We earned more than 70% of the voters approval for Sonoma County, and Sonoma County had the highest voter turnout in the state in 2008!

Only a few of the reasons. Explore our web site and read our newsletter to learn more.

“We really weren’t sure where our elected officials stood.  It’s great that SCCA tells us the truth!”
