Elected in November 2006, Jared Huffman represents the 6th District, which includes Marin and Sonoma counties and the cities of Novato, Petaluma, Rohnert Park and San Rafael.
As a senior attorney for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and as president of the Marin Municipal Water District Board of Directors, Assemblyman Huffman worked to protect Marin County’s creeks, fisheries and drinking water for 11 years.
Prior to joining NRDC, Assemblyman Huffman was a consumer attorney specializing in public interest cases. Among his court victories was an historic case on behalf of the National Organization for Women, which required all California State University campuses to comply with Title IX, creating new athletic opportunities for thousands of female scholar-athletes throughout California.
Assemblyman Huffman’s work was honored in 2000 with the "Millenium Leadership Award," presented by the Marin Independent Journal and Marin Community Foundation.
He graduated magna cum laude from the University of California - Santa Barbara and graduated cum laude from Boston College Law School. Prior to law school, Assemblyman Huffman was a three-time NCAA All-American athlete and member of the world-champion United States Volleyball Team. He lives in San Rafael with his wife, Susan, and their two children.
